Jesus Gives Us Light
“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. They that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, up on them has the light shined bright” (Isaiah 9:2).
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
Have you noticed that people spend hours driving around looking at Christmas lights? Everything we see is a result of light. Light allows our eyes to really see. We were made for light not darkness. We are drawn to light.
Light and darkness are such prominent themes in our lives that we have coined phrases about them. “You light up my life!” Or if someone does something remarkable we say, “Dude, you lit it up,” and so forth.
The very first command recorded in the Bible was to correct and conquer darkness. God said, “Let there be light” or, “Light be, and light was” (Genesis 1:3).
Jesus said, “I have come to give light to the world, whosoever believes on me shall no longer live in darkness” (John 12:46). And, “I am the light of the world, he that follows me shall not walk in darkness” (John 8:12).
Let’s keep Jesus the reason for the season. Let’s walk in the light as He is in the light!
