Proper Approach to God

In the New Testament, we see a man named Jairus who was a ruler of the synagogue. People looked to him for religious and spiritual answers. He was a big shot. When Jesus came along, people shifted their questions and attention to Jesus, and Jairus, of course, didn’t like it. Jairus might have even hated Jesus.

One day Jairus’ little daughter was so ill that no doctor or medicine could cure her. Jairus was big enough of a man to repent and humble himself before the Lord. He approached Jesus with a spirit of humility that released a miracle for his daughter (Mark 5:22). “And behold there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name: and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet and begged Jesus for help.” (Jairus had the proper approach).

Don’t let God become so common that you lose respect for Him. Highly esteem God, and highly esteem your glorious position as a son/daughter of God. Our approach to God in prayer has three ingredients:

  1. Come before His presence with praise.

  2. Come boldly unto the throne of grace.

  3. Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God.
