You Are God's Child

The Bible tells us that when we receive Jesus as our Lord we become sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:16-17).

Last week I was talking about how our self-image determines the good things or unfavorable things we receive in our lives. The way the devil keeps people down is by attacking our self-image. The first attack on mankind was in the Garden of Eden regarding the Eve’s self-image. The devil even attacked the self-image of Jesus.

“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up out of the water… And they all heard a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3: 16-17).

So, Jesus goes into the wilderness and fasts for forty days. Then Satan comes to tempt Jesus. Remember, the last thing Jesus heard God, His Father say out loud was “This is my beloved Son.”

“When Jesus had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterwards hungry. And when the tempter came to him, he said, IF you really are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread” (Matthew 4:2-3).

The last thing the Father said was, “You are My Son.” The first thing the devil said was, “IF you are the Son of God.” Two times the devil would assault Jesus’ identity by trying to get Jesus to question if He really was the Son of God saying, “If you be the Son of God,” (Matthew 4:3, 6).

There’s no doubt that sometimes our mind is assaulted with the thoughts that we are a loser, we aren’t going to make it, what’s the use, and so forth. We must get in the habit of judging ourselves by who and what God says we are.

You are who and what God says you are…His child!
