We Take the Place of Jesus

Jesus said, “Whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it to you” (John 15:16).

When it comes to asking Jesus and Him giving it to us, it is more like us speaking or demanding, or commanding something to be done for Him, in order to accomplish God’s Will on earth.

Jesus explained it this way: “And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:17-18, NKJV).

We see the true meaning of asking Jesus to do something for us in Acts 3:1-8. Peter commanded the crippled man saying, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk,” and he did. Peter wasn’t praying to the Father or Jesus to help the crippled man. He took the place of Jesus and invoked the name of Jesus to do what Jesus would have done had He been physically present that day.

Peter explained the remarkable miracle of the healing of the crippled man this way; The name of Jesus, through faith in his name, has made this man whole, whom you see and know: yes, the faith that comes through believing in Jesus’ name has given this crippled man perfect soundness in the presence of you all” (Acts 3:16).

Notice that, “Faith in the name of Jesus” is required to “demand” a miracle to be done and get results.
