An Heir of God
“I know the plans I have planned for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future” (Jeremiah 29:11, ICB).
Generally, regardless of the true facts, the assessment or picture that a person has of themself determines how the individual relates to God, themself, others, opportunities, challenges, and the world around them.
It is my experience that the assessment or picture that most people have of themselves is usually perverted in some way, and quite resistant to change. That’s why we need wisdom, understanding, and the help of God.
I would say that a person’s self-image is how a person would define or describe themselves if they were drunk and had no inhibitions, were perfectly frank and brutally honest about what they thought of themselves, or maybe how they would describe themselves if they were under the influence of “the truth serum” (Sodium Pentothal).
Regardless of the thoughts that you have of yourself and you believe are true, God has different thoughts about you. God says, “You are an heir of God, and joint-heir with Christ” (Romans 8:17).
Think about it. God wouldn’t want you to be His heir if you are as messed up as you think you are, would He? The answer is NO!
So if God thinks so highly about you that He made you His heir, stop thinking negative things about yourself and start thinking God things about yourself.
Get rid of the stinking-thinking about yourself!
