Favor is the state of being approved or held in high regard. It involves excessive kindness or unfair partiality, essentially preferential treatment. According to our dictionary definition, when we say, “God highly favors you,” it means that God regards you with great kindness, unfair partiality, and preferential treatment.
In the New Testament, the Greek word for “favor” is the same as the word for “grace” throughout the Scripture. This implies that whenever the word “grace” is used, you could accurately substitute it with the word “favor.”
Usually, in the context where the Bible uses the word “grace,” it’s a better choice of words than using the word “favor,” they are, nevertheless, the same Greek word. The Greek word for “favor,” in every instance it is used, is Strong’s Concordance number 5485. The Greek word is “charis.” It is the same word used for “grace” about 140 times throughout the New Testament.

In Luke 1:30, the angel told Mary she found favor with God.
In Luke 2:52, Jesus found favor with God and man.
In Acts 2:47, the early church found favor with all the people.
In Acts 4:33, great favor was upon them all.
