Use Your Iron Will

We celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Yes, Jesus was born in a manger, in a stable. The shepherds tending their flocks saw angels, heard the heavenly choir, and came to see baby Jesus.

But Jesus’ assignment wasn’t just to be born. His assignment was to grow up, reveal God as Father, help people, and carry our sins while paying the penalty and consequences for them. But that did not complete His assignment. He would then rise from the dead after conquering every negative thing we experience in life.

There came a time in Jesus' earthly journey when He had to move toward His destiny.

Luke 9:51 NIV says, “As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely (purposely, determined, and unwavering) set out for Jerusalem.”

The Message Bible says, “He gathered up his courage and steeled himself for the journey to Jerusalem.”

The Living Bible says, “As the time drew near for his return to heaven, he moved steadily onward toward Jerusalem with an iron will.”

Notice the terms describing the determination of Jesus:

  • Jesus steadfastly set His face.

  • Jesus resolutely set out.

  • Jesus gathered up His courage.

  • Jesus steeled Himself.

  • Jesus moved steadily onward with an iron will.

You do the same toward your goal and watch what happens!
